Just got the opportunity today to do my first gilded windows downtown! What I'd like is to have someone help me with the pricing, I can easily do the work (she says, laughing), but...

Hi Catharine,
A gold leaf job is no different than any other job when it comes to pricing. You figure how much you will have in materials, how many hours times your shop rate, and factor in your overhead and profit.

Everything else simply depends on how complicated it is. The catch here, of course, is that you need to have done enough similar jobs or test projects to have a clue how to figure how many real world hours you will need to estimate. Someone that has done a similar job dozen or hundreds of times will probably be more efficient at it and can probably adjust their rate per hour upwards. They will also hit their time estimate more often.

I know this is not the answer you want from any of us, but really it is the correct answer to this question.

Congratulations!
If you e-mail me the art work, the size and how far the travel time is. I would be happy to let you know what I would charge.Think about possibly doing it on a panel in your shop and installing it in the window.The thing about gilding on site is you will have to make a few trips down there to get it done.
Also keep in mind DON'T SELL IT CHEAP !

Thanks, Roderick I certainly do NOT want to under price, nor do I wish to be regarded as a dilettante. Unfortunately it does have to be in situ! I will get back to you-
