Nice little sign. I have seen many of these before. Most have lost their hangers so this is a find. Note how yellowed the varnish is that holds the pearl, very difficult to fix but what a huge amount of pearl on a small sign. The flocked back is pretty worn but all still there so it has been hanging for a long time. I wonder what the reserve is as the current bid is pretty low.

I've seen this sign before, it was hangin' in a shop....

Rick had one of these down at the Fine Gold Sign Co. ...missing a chunk though.
Indeed, would be a nice one to replicate.

This is the photo from the Ebay auction...wanted to grab it, as it would be gone after the close of the auction.

These pieces appear to be screened off of the exact same art master, but in these photos it looks like the letter centers were done differently. The one on EBay is fully pearl chips, the one at Rick's looks as if they used the pearl sparingly and then applied a textured silver aluminum foil. Any input on this Larry?
One other thing I noticed is that they didn't toolchip right up to the corners which looks nice as well as avoiding snapping off a corner.

I want to see a nice big piece coming out your shop Larry.
Easy to make with a vinyl mask and silvered over.
Chrushed abalone and sprinkled glitter dust to the letters sounds good.

How about this one? Full size, of course. Hey Pat, or Mike, either of you have a larger version of this picture that you could send me...vector art? I mean, am I right?... close?

Who knows...

I remember talking on the phone to an older gentleman who called right after the 3rd edition came out. I don't remember his name now but he had worked at one of the production shops. His call was just to talk to someone who would appreciate what his life's work was. He was really elederly and was to send me his contact info and some photos but never did although I have his name filed somewhere. He said they had 5 or 6 finishers who were allowed some lattitute on some signs. They were to keep the basic appearance the same but mostly to fight boredom, were allowed to do different treatments in some elements. I suspect this was the case with the Dolly Madison Cigars.

Hartung Glass here in Helenback can split me off a piece of their 130" long stock sheet to whatever height I want (up to 72" that is). That would make that Van Dyck sign about 130" x 40". Is that big enough Mr. Smith?

I took a minute to scale this sign. If one of the two tallest gents to the right were 6 foot (70") tall, the visible glass would be near
53" in height X 169" in length. Add an inch to each measurement to include the rest of the bevel in the frame.
It took a herd of cows just to chip the dang thing!

Larry.
Sounds good to me ,I will be happy to see this one made at Pat's new sizes.Good luck I know you can do it.You will need 4 people to silver her at each corner. Send me a ticket and I will be one of them.
