Procedure question for M. Jackson

Mike,

I remember reading the series you did explaining the glue chip process for the "SIGNS" sign you made, but I can't remember if you explained how you did the deep etch around each letter.

Did you make a resist that just had an outline of the letters, deep etch the outline and then weed and etch the letters in preparation for the glue chip. Not having done any chipping, I'm just guessing at the process. Can you set me straight on how you did it?

I went back to the old Forum and found the three "Parent" threads regarding that process. You will probably want to read all the posts and replies to get the whole picture. Pay special attention to instructions supplied by Pat Mackle. He did the original piece shown above and guided us along as a couple of us tried it.

I did it two different ways, all spelled out in the threads (mostly the second one)

Be sure and come back here to ask more questions about the process after you've read all the old posts!

The links in that post go back to the old, old BB. A few years ago, we ported them over to this BB (manually). You can find them by doing a SEARCH for gluechip, glue chip, and glue-chip.

I re-read this article a hundred of times when i printed it out back in januari.
It took me ages (three months) to get the right liquid asphaltum....
First i bought a can and was very excited, because it was the only shop in whole Nederland which sold it.
He said when i bought it that his speciality paint shop has excisted for 80 years, but never one person asked for it...
I came home opened the can and it was asphaltum powder!
So i tried to make it into liquid: One jar mixed with Terpentine and one with thinner. After one week the one with the terpintine looked somewhat desolved, but when painting it on a piece of glass it was a joke.
Later i bought some liquid asphaltum you guys use through internet. So much to learn, but even this article already for me brings back good memories haha
