Anyone use Staples?

Post by Mike Jackson »

With all the prices for everything going up all the time, I still find some pretty good deals. We have a local Staples store here in Jackson and it's really our only local source for office supplies, computers, monitors, and so forth. The people living in the "big cities" have a lot more choices.

Here are a few recent features:
1: I have been buying from them for several years, and they occasionally send out little coupons in the mail. Today, I received one for $50 off of an order of $200 or more. I have a Staples Premier Customer card, so I get my shipping free on any order. So, this little coupon amounts to a 25% savings if I keep my purchase to as close to $200 as I can get it.

2: I get 10% back on the money I spend on ink.

3: I get $3 credited for every HP ink cartridge I bring back for recycling (they stopped doing the credit on Epson inks).

4: I purchased enough ink from them last year that I was placed on some sort of Preferred Customer program to save another 10% on top of everything I purchase on line. (According to my account rep, they say they will meet any advertised special pricing, but that turned out to be a lot of hassle to save a few dollars).

5: I also went through their paperwork and submitted my resale tax documentation so I save the sales tax (on most items).

I purchased a nice HP Photo printer from Staples last fall for my photography prints. Part of the decision to buy from them was based on all the discounts mentioned above.

With all the competition in that market, it is nice to get a few perks and get to take some discounts. This last coupon arrived here on the 15th of July and I had to make the purchase by the 19th, so it does take some attention to detail. I have another coupon on the desk good for $20 off an order of $200 or more, but I have until Oct. 17 to use it.

I hope everyone is having a great summer!

...STAPLES proved their value to me recently. I had purchased over priced new ink to replace the dried out cartridges in the epson that came w. my computer. When the POS thing still did not work, epson phone 'support' informs me that I need to have the printer serviced (which would cost more than a new one!). STAPLES let me return the opened epson ink, refunded its cost, and let me dump (recycle) the useless epson printer for $50 credit with which I bought a new HP (multi function) fax-copier-printer. The epson ink that I'd thought I was stuck with cost over $60.
I was happy to pay a total of $100 for the new unit.
...Somewhere there must be a warehouse FULL of old epson printers and ink cartridges. What a waste...

Yes I do also.....office supplies and even computer items, inks CD's etc. In fact a new drafting chair for the shop a few months back. I'm not enrolled in their bonus mailing etc but for the most part they have been terrific for me. I always feel a certain amount of guilt (spelled that way) whenever I go into any big box store, but the small hardware and stationers are pretty much gone now. Although I do have a sense of pride when I can say that I've never walked into a Walmart before.

There's a Staples just a few blocks from my studio, so it is very handy to pick up needed stuff.

Just yesterday I received a Rewards "check" for $25.30 that I can use for the next box of photo paper or whatever. The $3 for each ink cartridge also helps out with a few items.

We also have an Office Max that just opened up a few months ago. They are always dropping a "$10 Off" coupon in the mail...and also have a rewards program like Staples. Competition is a good thing.
