L.A. Gold

Post by Leo Calleros »

Does anyone here have any experience using gold from this supplier? It is fairly cheap compared to other vendors I have seen.

I dont want to save money now o only pay for it in quality.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Leo,
I bought some materials from them about a month ago. They are about 20 minutes away from my shop.
I bought Rolco size and some loose books of 23K and 12K. The leaf size is 3 3/8" X 3 3/8", a little smaller than the Italian leaf I usually get from EZ Leaf.
I water gilded on glass with the L.A. 23K. I began the job with Italian leaf, and finished with the L.A. leaf. I noticed that the L.A. leaf tended to show the "beating texture"
in the leaf, whereas the Italian burnished to a more mirror like quality. However, I would not want to make any real judgment on the L.A. leaf until I specifically did more controlled gilding tests.
The owners of L.A. Gold Leaf were very helpful and offered my friend and I green tea cookies while the pulled my order.
